Number 1 is discussed, and I think we have the same conclusion. However, scientists state that it is not likely to happen due to the resent sun activities.

Number 2 is too vague, major earthquakes happen every year. People do survive and some people die. It's normal, especially with the increasing population in high risk areas. Again, if you are saying that a some what more destructive earthquake would happen in 2012, where is your prove? To my understanding, even the most high-tech equipment and professional geologists why devote their lives in earthquake studies can't predict exactly when an earthquake occurs. What makes you think you can? Or any of the sites where you obtained your sources from?

Number 3 happens, but not in 2012. NASA has not spotted anything that can even come close to affect us in the near future, or couple of hundred years. Back in 2003, they did discover an asteroid which was calculated to make contact with earth in 2036. But that calculation was redone after more data became available. And guess what? It's not coming to hit us. (Even if it is, not in 2012).

Number 4 is possible, but not likely in 2012. Who's going to start the fighting? What makes you think it's a world war? Do you have any prove that this is going to happen? Or should I say, can you predict the future?

Number 5 sounds scary, maybe, but your statement is too vague. I have no knowledge of methane fountains. What makes you think the odds are going up? And what are the odds if they go up? Please don't just make wild claims, support them.

Number 6 sounds scary, possibly, any scientists agree with you? Or you are making claims again? And what does this have to do with 2012? Can you predict that it will happen in 2012? not 2011 or 2013?

Yes I agree with you that credibility is determined solely by the source and the amount of people that agree with it. Just because you and a couple of scientist agree on the issue, doesn't make it credible.

Doomsday seems to be your nemesis. Your beliefs need to be re-examined because they cause you so much anguish. Every
single statement I make says that humanity can survive with the right preparation. Your statements suggest otherwise. What are the possible doomsday scenarios that I believe can happen?
1. Solar flare shuts down the power grid. People have to survive without power for several weeks.
2. Major earthquakes happen. People have to survive without government assistance for several weeks.
3. Asteroid strike happens. People have to survive in a bunker as well as survive the impending nuclear winter.
4. World War 3. Same as #3.
5. Methane fountains cause a firestorm. Anything in the open will be incinerated. Same as #3. Odds are increasing with the oil and methane leak.
6. Tsunami off the Gulf Coast. Odds are increasing with the seafloor around the pipe leaking oil. What does happen when

Wrong, if any of the proposed 2012 scenarios are true then it wouldn't matter if you so were to hide a mile under earths surface. You still wouldn't make it. And the Canberra bunker on ATS that you linked to, it's above ground or not far below. Would that really provide any kind of protection if the earth were to open up in mile wide "canyons"?

Governments are always building bunkers, they are always striwing for protection against any kind of threat. That doesn't mean that they are preparing for doomsday. Or am I missing something here?=)

Does that sound like we're in for a new ice age now (i.e. 2012 or so)? I don't doubt that the effects you describe are plausible, but I do doubt that they can cause a new "Maunder minimum" within just a couple of years. I think that all the effects you describe might very well be fluctuations within the expected rate of decreasing (when talking about the magnetosphere). As a matter of fact, to my understanding the sun is now becomming more active and thus does a new Maunder minimum appear even less likelly. Or does any evidence exist claiming otherwise?

Can you comment on the speculation that global extinction and geological events have previously been linked with galactic events such as spiral arm crossings and galactic plane oscillation? Why have you been writing that galactic alignments have nothing to do with extinction cycles?

The key to any suggestions that crossing of the galactic plane are linked to m
ass extinctions is to propose a mechanism. This issue first came up a couple of decades ago when it appeared that mass extinctions were quasi-periodic and that they might mostly be caused by comet or asteroid impacts. The hypothesis was that during the million years or so of the galactic plane crossing, gravitational perturbations by denser clouds of gas and dust might dislodge comets from the Oort cloud and cause one or more "comet showers" in the inner solar system. Today most researchers no longer support either of these assumptions, that mass extinctions are periodic or that most are caused by impacts. I don't think I have ever commented on this hypothesis in the past. What I have said, of course, is that the idea that our solar system is near the galactic plane today, or that it will cross the plane at some discrete time like 2012, or that mysterious (and non-existent) forces associated with the galactic plane could harm us, are wrong. This is a wild fantasy associated with 2012 doomsday hoax, and it has nothing to do with the science questions that interest you (and me).
