How would you feel if this is all true.

I don't know, how would you feel if everything you had ever observed and understood about reality, right down to the core of how you assemble and process information, proved to be false? Because that's pretty much what it would take for 2012 claims to pan out.

That you did not take all the precautions to protect your family or friends.

I hope you've taken precautions for the coming of Godzilla, because that's far more likely than anything claimed by 2012 doomsayers.

Believe it or not. I would rather waste $50.00 on worthless information.

2012 doomsayers would rather you waste fifty dollars on worthless information, too.

But on the other hand if. If I can be of some help to someone in need. I feel that I have done my part as to helping save humanity.

Except you aren't doing this, and neither are the 2012 scam artists.

Isnt that what GOD wanted us to do.

God wants you to lie? Really?

To help one another in need.

Oh. Well, in that case, put that fifty bucks you'd have blown on worthless information into your kid's college fund. If you don't have kids and have no plans for any, donate it to the charity of your choice. That's a far better use of the money, don't you think?

I am not one of those bible thumping christians.

Okay.

I am a person that wants peace in the world and for all of us to help other folks in time of need. Peace.

See above.

The event will happen the same way the "event" happened for all those people who gathered to stare at the sun for a few hours with their bare eyes. They believed it was scheduled to do something spectacular that day from religious beliefs. People were quoted after the event saying things like "I have never seen the sun do that! It was amazing!". I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that staring at the sun was damaging their eyes.

The event here is not real, but they will probably try and make it real in their heads. Seeing things that don't exist, because they want to see them.

Your first link says:

He noted that at present there are no estimates of the amount of economic benefit that could represent the strategy, but clearly the interest in the world to witness this event, which occurs only every 26 thousand years.

and

The head of Tourism of Yucatan, Juan José Martín Pacheco, said that promote Chichenitza and Uxmal, which will be important between now and December 2012, because there will be several partial lunar and solar eclipses, as well as the alignment of the planets.

I wonder if they are truly ignorant of the fact that no particular observable event takes place every 26,000 years or if they are just trying to drum up some publicity, like all good tourism chiefs. Similarly, there is no alignment of planets and eclipses can be seen during any two-year period. Some visitors may well turn out to be disappointed.

Their hero John Major Jenkins has been pretty wishy-washy from what I have read. He has even gone as far as to refute claims of a 2012 event, being highly critical of people spreading fear. He even said there was zero evidence or any "doom" claims. :-|

The most recent post is from May 2010, and states:

Something will happen on December 21, 2012. What it is or how exactly it is going to go down, no one can really say yet, but something WILL happen, this much Biblical scholars, scientists, political analysts and astronomers agree.

Quite a statement, and quite false, actually. Scientists can't even agree that the Mayan calendar "ends" on that date.

EDIT 26 MARCH 2011: Updated links, and did general cleanup.

While doing research for a video, I ran across a reference here to a presentation called "Understanding 2012". That presentation was made by Jim Reed, who's Editor of the monthly newsletter of the Institute for Maya Studies (IMS). He's also on the Board of Directors of The Maya Conservancy, whose Secretary of the Board is the owner of Guatemala's Jades, S.A.

Both The Maya Conservancy and the Guatemalan jade interests are enthusiastic promoters of John Major Jenkins. But I hadn't known that the IMS is, too.

Here's some of what I found:

Classic 2012 scare-mongering from Reed, on a page with a half-hearted disclaimer from the IMS:

[The transition to 2012] is really already happening now and will continue to accelerate. Not only is there an increase of powerful earthquakes and changes in climate around the world, but mankind is also being shaken down to the core of our most treasured beliefs. It isn’t just the physical world, but also our mental, emotional and spiritual worlds will get a big “shaking up”. … Plus, scientists now know that 2012 will be the peak of a great solar cycle and we can expect to experience some major repercussions from increased solar activity. [Note: From the 17 Feb 2010 of the Newsletter. JS]

Glowing testimonials to John Major Jenkins, in a page without any disclaimer: [Page apparently no longer exists.]

Order John’s newest book, The 2012 Story, and you will find the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, from the man who Jim Reed believes is the “Godfather of 2012”!

Bogus "Galactic Alignment" astronomy (page has no disclaimer):

The alignment in 2012 is very important astronomically. It involves our sun aligning with the arc of the Milky Way at a crossroads (a Maya creation place) where it hasn’t been for +/-26,000 years.

And this curious statement, with no disclaimer:

But be forewarned, no matter if you celebrate the Maya Long Count Calendar end date at a Maya site or not, wherever you are on 12/21/2012, take along some strong UV sunglasses and use some strong sun-block. Future generations are depending on you!

I was thinking that perhaps a general heads up paragraph such as popular media uses these media to sell people things could be added. There seemed to be a lot of questions on various musicians playing off 2012, that people believe. Sort of just because it is written down in a book or featured on the History Channel don't mean diddly. Use critical thinking to work through the thing.

On an another note almost done with Hand Clow piece.

Problem I have is that there is soooo much written material and people believe this stuff that I have to sit back and just shake my head. Just because some one came up with stuff that seems to make sense doesn't make it so. Thinking of Jenkins and Calleman and their proof. Sounds good has proof, etc, and is in book form, but……
