Hey guys. Just wanted to get your take on this. Was wondering if maybe the Mayan Calendar could actually be predicting a major climate change rather than an apocalyptic outcome that seems to have grabbed pop-culture by the horns.
None of the several Mayan calendars predict anything. Even if they did, how would the Maya have had the ability to "predict" something like climate change?
I have seen a few specials on TV (I know) that have stated that there is evidence from land samples showing that there was a very rapid climate change that occurred about 5200 years ago.
Here is something I found on the subject.

Considering that is only a sample, it really doesn't add anything to whatever discussion you're trying to start. Looks like you just went digging. Or do you have JSTOR access?
Any legitimacy to this?
It's an actual scientific paper, if that's what you're asking. Whether the claims are accepted, I do not know.
Found this article with Lonnie Thompson as well.

You invoke that name as if he's an old friend.
Abrupt climate change as an actual phenomenon is not new.
Now, this does not provide evidence of any type of global annihilation for those thinking this, just a major climate change.
Why does it have to be "major?" What does "major" in this context even mean?
If this is true, there will be a bit of adjusting for our modern society.
Welcome to Earth.
Whatcha think?
I think you're inserting a reference to the Mayan calendar just to have an excuse to bring up this irrelevant issue, for whatever reason. Moved to Off-Topic.
