How Andriol Causes Side Effects

Andriol is a testosterone supplement in the form of testosterone undecanoate. It offers the androgenic and anabolic effects similar to testosterone hormone. This supplement is in an oral formulation of capsules that are usually swallowed whole. It is mainly prescribed for men with low testosterone as part of testosterone replacement therapy. However, it has found use in the fitness and body building world for its anabolic effects.

Testosterone undecanoate is usually dose adjusted for each individual depending on their response. The daily dose usually ranges from 120 milligrams to 160 milligrams normally in two divided doses a day. After a few weeks of monitoring the response, the amount is reduced to around 40 to 120 milligram range. Sometimes larger doses are needed depending on the body weight, concurrent medications or polypharmacy and preexisting medical conditions.

Andriol side effects are due to the excess testosterone in the body. This includes enlarging of the prostrate which may lead to urinary problems such as urine retention and dribbling. There is also a reduction in testicular size which happens because the testicles have lost their work of producing testosterone to the exogenous source, and like most organs, they undergo disuse atrophy.

Testosterone increases the formation of sebaceous glands and sebum production which leads to development of acne. Another unpleasant side effect on the skin is the development of skin rashes and itching. Because of the rapid muscle gain and skin atrophy from steroid use, there is development of striae, stretch marks. While not a life threatening side effect, it is unpleasant and leads to reduced self confidence.

Like other testosterone supplements, Andriol is converted to dihydrotestosterone, which attaches to hair follicles in the scalp. In individuals with the gene for male pattern baldness, this is devastating. The susceptible follicles undergo inflammation, which they are not able to withstand. The result is hair thinning and balding. Excess testosterone is converted to estrogen in the body. The estrogen then causes the unpleasant effect of weight gain and gynecomastia.

Correct use of Andriol combined with exercise is necessary for the prevention of some of the side effects.
